Brendan H. Kevenides is an experienced Chicago trial lawyer representing individuals and their families in serious injury and wrongful death cases. His focus is matters involving medical malpractice, pedestrian and bicycle accidents, construction, as well as motor vehicle litigation. The verdicts and settlements he has achieved for his clients exceed $12 million.
Mr. Kevenides is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and received his law degree from DePaul University where he was awarded for demonstrated excellence in trial advocacy. He is licensed to practice in Illinois and is a member of the Trial Bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He is a member of the American Association for Justice and the Tort Litigation Committee of the Chicago Bar Association. He also serves as an arbitrator in the Cook County Mandatory Arbitration Program.

A 29 year old woman suffered deprivation of oxygen to her brain, leaving her in a persistent vegatative state, when caregivers administered too much Propofol (Diprivan) and failed to protect her airway during surgical termination of her pregnancy. The case was resolved for the full amount of all applicable insurance coverage.

Physicians failed to diagnose and treat a severe infection in the dominant arm of a 42 year-old, diabetic man. As a result, he was forced to undergo amputation of his arm. This was reportedly the largest arm-related settlement in Will County, Illinois history.

A 39 year-old woman died after the defendant physician misdiagnosed her pulmonary embolism as pneumonia. She was survived by two adult children who lived with her. A partial settlement was reached with the defendant hospital prior to trial. The physician settled at trial after the close of plaintiff’s case.

During back surgery on a 44 year-old woman the defendant physician damaged several of the patient’s blood vessels. As a result, the woman was left with hampered blood flow to one of her legs causing pain and swelling in the extremity. The defendant asserted that the injury was not the result of surgical negligence, but was a recognized risk of the procedure.

An 11 year-old girl was being towed in an inflatable inner tube behind a boat operated by a family friend on a lake near Antioch, Illinois. As she traveled around the lake another boat motoring across the waterway collided with her body causing a serious shoulder injury. The girl was left with scarring and a reduced ability to use the arm. Plaintiff's complaint alleged that the drivers of both boats failed to maintain an adequate lookout for others using the waterway and passed too closely to one another, thereby causing the collision.

A 41 year old woman was treated by an infertility specialist who damaged her rectum while attempting to remove her left fallopian tube. The damage caused a serious infection to develop which brought about her death at home two days after the surgery. This case was litigated in Will County, Illinois.

A 17 year old boy died after his pediatrician failed to diagnose and treat pulmonary embolism. The patient had a history of nephrotic syndrome, recent phlebotomy and symptoms of pulmonary embolism over 10 days including hemoptosis, chest pain, dizziness and positive chest x-ray. The boy died due to a large saddle embolus. He is survived by his mother. This case was litigated in Stephenson County, Illinois.

A 22 month-old child was attacked by the defendants' dog while the child and his mother were visiting the defendants' home. The attack caused significant scalp injuries. Plaintiff's complaint alleged that defendants failed to take proper steps to protect the boy from the dog even though they knew that the dog had attacked the minor plaintiff, and at least one other child, on previous occasions.

An elderly man was struck and killed by a minivan while riding his bicycle through a traffic intersection in Mattoon, Illinois. The defense was prepared to present extensive scientific evidence from an accident reconstruction expert that the decedent himself was at fault for the incident. However, investigation uncovered a witness to the scene who observed the defendant driver speeding through the intersection while not paying proper attention.

The plaintiff, a 40 year old man, was traveling eastbound in Belmont Avenue in Chicago when the defendant abruptly attempted to perform a u-turn, swerving directly into the path of the plaintiff’s vehicle. As a result, the plaintiff suffered a neck injury resulting in significant pain that took several months to resolve.

A woman slipped and fell on ice that formed on a METRA platform, breaking her leg. Plaintiff claimed that the ice formed from a broken rain gutter that caused water to drip directly onto the platform which froze following a drop in outside temperature.
